Sunday of Japan Vlogs
We're not travelling to Japan anytime soon. But yet, I spent a lot of Sunday watching vlogs by Will Zhao on his travels around Kyushu. It started with an innocuous video about XXX. I'm not sure why I started watching it. Maybe I thought it was a video about photography. Or maybe I got click baited by the title, "How a picture led to a calm journey in Kagoshima - A Japan adventure no one else will tell you about". In any case, I enjoyed that video and the subsequent videos.
Will was travelling around Kyushu and documenting his time. I'm not sure if he is ever in the any of the scenes he captures, but he narrates a well written script, sharing his thought process about his travels and along the way, sharing insights into his own personal world. He is definitely a more adventurous traveler than I am. But we share the same joy in being in our own company and a good planning discipline.
What I admire in him and aim to achieve with myself, is a strong desire to be in the moment. He is not rushing from one place to another, ticking off a destination and another. He takes the time to enjoy his journey and spends time at the destination, simply sitting and enjoying the view.
As much as I admire his travel choices, I will not be backpacking anytime soon. I like to strike a balance between thriftiness and comfort. But the reality is that I’m very happy to be pushed towards comfort if it is still within my total trip budget.
The videos are well made with a good dose of subtle humour. It feels like Will is making this for himself and I'm just a grateful quiet observer.
