Learning about Focusing
I’ve heard that Sony leads the way in terms of Auto focusing systems. Canon and Nikon follow behind and Fujifilm is politely enjoying the view on a hike. My attempts to let my Fujifilm camera auto detect faces and focus have resulted in either blurry images or no images at all when the shutter does not trigger as the camera does not detect anything in focus.
Given a slightly better pedigree of Nikon in this area, I thought I test and learn how to rely on the camera to lock in focus and make the image. I selected an area of the scene for the camera to auto detect faces and went about making photos. I made some really good images that I really like, but there were some images where the focus was completely off. Sharp focus is not critical to a good photo. However, in this training session, I failed to meet the purpose of what I set out to achieve.
Here are a few of the images I like, even if some of them are not in focus.
