A Change in Approach
My passion for Fujifilm cameras lies in the retro look and their digital film simulations. The Fujifilm cameras I’ve used and are still using inspire me to pick them up to make images and the way I can see the scene with the filmic colours baked in help me with my creative process. This approach largely allows me to spend time making images and less time on the editing the photos.
Lately, I’ve been experimenting with a different way of making images. I wrote about changing up the in-camera recipes previously. The new recipes still require more time in my editing software, Lightroom, to make minor corrections to achieve a more natural look. I suspect the main culprit here is trying to achieve a realistic white balance.
Rather than try to fight the battle of avoiding Lightroom, I thought why not embrace the assistance technology has provided and incorporate it into my workflow. My approach now is a balance of both in-camera recipes and raw file editing when required. I’m now re-learning how to editing raw files to achieve the look I want. This image by Peter Van Agtmael has inspired the look I want.
Here are some edited jpeg vs edited raw file images I took this week.
